The Map

The newscaster drones on, a piece about healthy living, a piece on how to save money, a piece on another casualty in the “war on terror.”

The Map

The newscaster drones on,
a piece about healthy living,
a piece on how to save money,
a piece on another casualty
in the “war on terror.”
No picture, no film clip.
Just a nameless, faceless map
with a small dot,
it happened here.
Like the “you are here” maps
in the shopping malls
and about as personal.
Except to a few,
those who said goodbye in the airport,
those who will never see him again,
hear him again, touch him again.
To them it’s not a “you are here” map,
it’s where a part of their soul died.
For them, the world stops
there is nothing after the announcement.
For the rest of us,
the newscaster moves on
to the viral video of the day.
