We have a very specific submissions process, please read below.

Please note: We have changed our submissions policy as of 12 June 2019. The editor will no longer be accepting e-mail submissions. All submissions must be sent through our Green Submissions page (see the bottom of this page for details). Green Submissions allows us to accept more submissions in a manner that is both efficient and organized. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Palabras's editor at rappg@clovis.edu. For those who submitted work via e-mail on or before 12 June 2019, your work will be reviewed in the order in which it was received. Also note: We will never charge a reading fee for submissions sent to Palabras.

We are currently filing for an ISSN. We are hoping to obtain an ISSN within the next six to eight weeks (as of 16 June 2019).

Rights. Upon acceptance, Palabras acquires: 1) worldwide rights to publish a(n) artist’s/writer’s contribution (i.e., flash fiction, short story, essay, etc.) in an upcoming edition of Palabras and any Palabras-affiliated media; 2) exclusive worldwide rights for a period of ninety (90) business days from the date of Palabras’s first publication of the submission in question; 3) non-exclusive perpetual rights to republish, store, syndicate, or distribute the submission or portions of the submission in English; and 4) the right to use the contributor’s name and likeness in a fair and dignified manner and to publish information about the contributor in connection with the advertising and promotion of Palabras and of the submission in question. 5) When exclusive rights expire after ninety (90) business days, the artist/writer is free to seek publication elsewhere, but Palabras must be credited in all subsequent publications of the submission in question. 6) All rights granted by this agreement are granted in perpetuity and applicable in all media including, but not limited to, all electronic media, internet, wireless or mobile platforms whether now known or hereafter created. 7) If a(n) artist/writer wishes to withdraw a submission from Palabras, s/he can do so within sixty (60) business days prior to the publication of the applicable edition of Palabras. Requests to withdraw content can be directed to the editor at rappg@clovis.edu. 8) Artists/writers retain the copyrights of their respective submissions to Palabras.

Payment. Palabras does not pay contributors for submissions of any kind. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact Palabras‘s editor at rappg@clovis.edu.

Simultaneous Submissions. Palabras accepts simultaneous submissions in the fiction, nonfiction, flash fiction, poetry, and photograph/art. We simply ask that you inform the editor (rappg@clovis.edu) in a timely manner if any of your pieces have been accepted elsewhere so that they may be removed from consideration.

Author’s/Artist’s Biography. When entering a submission, please include a 50-word biography to be printed alongside your piece in the event that it is accepted for publication.

Submission Periods, Deadlines, Response Time, and Publication Cycle.

Submission Periods/Deadlines.

Response Time. Please allow for ninety (90) business days for a response from Palabras‘s staff. If you have not received a response at the end of ninety (90) business days, please send a query e-mail to Palabras‘s editor at rappg@clovis.edu.

Publication Cycle. Palabras is published year round. We publish at between the first and fifteenth of each month, depending on content. All new content is listed under the "Featured" list (see homepage for details).

Withdrawal. Artists/writers are free to withdraw any and all submissions from Palabras within sixty (60) business days prior to applicable publication date. Palabras’s staff would prefer that artists/writers not withdraw content. Nevertheless, if artists/writers feel the need to withdraw content, they can do so by e-mailing the journal’s editor at rappg@clovis.edu.

What Is Palabras Looking For?

Palabras is open to submissions from all artists and writers. Submissions are published on the basis of talent, content, and editorial needs. With that in mind, Palabras serves as a forum for students, faculty, and staff of Clovis Community College, as well as artists, poets, and writers nation- and worldwide. Consequently, the views expressed in Palabras do not necessarily reflect the viewpoints and opinions of Clovis Community College as a whole.
